A lot of things can impact our relationships; becoming new parents, having to support older parents, health issues, menopause, moving homes, job commitments. Over time communication can break down, and all of a suddenly you are spending less time together, perhaps intimacy has disappeared, you feel like you have nothing in common any more and you are arguing over silly little things. I am here to help you reconnect.
Perhaps trust has been broken through secrets, an affair, an addiction, you might be getting mixed messages from family and friends which contradict how you feel. You might be confused, not sure what to do, can you move forward from this? I can provide you with the space to talk through what went wrong, how together you can move forward, reopen the lines of communication in a calm way, so you can both voice your needs and be heard.
Children can have a huge impact on a relationship, from becoming new parents, navigating teenagers, their heartache, struggles with school, exams, bullying. Blended families, bereavement, when they leave home, son or daughter in-laws, grandchildren. I have worked in a college with teenagers as well as have two of my own. No one tells you having children will be one of the most hardest things you will ever do, and as a couple, you can navigate this together, having each others back, being on the same page. Communication is key!
I have experience supporting military families and the difficulties deployment can have on a relationship.
Relationships can be challenging and so many external things can impact it, so no wonder sometimes we might feel a bit lost, alone in a house full of people. I can work with you to improve communication, rediscover joy, increase connection and intimacy and untangle any emotional blocks. Lets work together to get your relationship with yourself and each other back on track.
The way I work: After the first joint session which will be information gathering and an overview of your current situation I offer you an individual session each this can be 30 minutes of an hour, this is to get to know both on an individual level, sometime we are not ready to share in front of our partner or the trust might not be their yet. These sessions are confidential to you individually so I will not share what you have said with your partner. We are then back as a couple. After 3 or 4 sessions we will review where you are, if there have been changes/progress. If required you can have an additional individual session each. All couples are different and work at different paces.
Counselling can be Face-to-Face (in the Plymouth area), or online, or a combination to suit your needs. Our time together can be short-term or long-term. For couples I usually suggest that sessions are weekly for at least 4 weeks and if there is progress then move to fortnightly (again this is up to you and your situation). I can also provide monthly check-ins.
I aim to provide you with a safe space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings, to listen without judgement, and to hear what you have to say. I am here to guide you with reflective questions, giving you space to process what you have said. This should assist you with gaining an insight into why you might be feeling this way, and how moving forward we can look at what tools you have to support your well-being.
We are all unique and process things in different ways, so I will try and find a way that works for you, to support you through your journey.
